If you have never worked with an artist before, it might be confusing knowing where to even start. For me, it's always best to start with a conversation so I can answer any questions you have directly. So, if you wish to secure commission work, shoot me an email to discuss your ideas and preferred medium.
If you decide to hire me to work on a project for you, I handle payment as follows:
I ask that you provide payment in two installments. Half of the agreed upon price will be due as a nonrefundable deposit at the beginning of the piece. The other half will be due upon its completion and your written approval prior to delivery. Your written approval and payment signifies that you are wholly satisfied with the end product.
In its most simplistic form, here is what commissioning looks like:
1. Send me your photos and make an initial deposit via PayPal.
2. Approve initial sketch, halfway point, and final product.
3. Pay remainder of balance and receive your artwork.
Of course, communication is very important to me. I'll stay in contact with you often to double check, clarify, update, and adjust your commission as needed. It is one of the ways I make sure you are happy with the end product.
I like to offer 4 points of reference: an initial rough sketch to get an idea of composition, a digital* or traditional mock -up of the line art that can be easily adjusted, a midway point, and a final product.
* Please note, all final products are done in TRADITIONAL media. All artwork is hand drawn with no use of A.I. EVER. When working out a drawing, using a digital stylus to hand draw concepts in art software can be quick, effective, and easily changed when laying out what a final drawing will look like with the client.
If for some reason you are not pleased with the final product, I try to strike a compromise between us. Please understand that by the time I reach the end product, I will have spent a considerable amount of my time administrating, preparing, and creating. For these reasons, I have adopted the following policy:
If you are displeased with the end product, you will not be obligated to pay the remainder of the commission fee. I will retain the original artwork and the rights to use it on my site, as well as the initial deposit due to the amount of time I would have already spent working towards the piece. I do my very best to provide many examples of my work prior to commissioning so my customers know EXACTLY what they can expect, and I also keep open lines of discussion throughout the process to iron out wrinkles that may arise. It's absolutely my goal that both of us walk away feeling like it was a good experience.
I have yet to have an unsatisfied client that I am aware of, and I hope to keep it that way!
