I live in a modest sized town in the Southern United States. As a ten-year-old animal lover, I began my art journey by drawing horses, but not particularly well. This was the start of a (mostly) self-taught art education that I found I loved.
My first commission was a horse drawing for a friend when I was in 5th grade. I refused to accept payment, but later found a quarter sneakily tucked in my desk from the recipient of the drawing. She refused to take it back.
When I reached my teen years, I began taking pet commission work for people I knew—my family and friends. As the years drifted on and my business grew, I’m proud to say I have worked with friends and strangers alike to immortalize their pet family members. My drawings reflect my journey; I have pieces from my teen years leading up to present day.
My very favorite pieces to create are pet portraits for those who are mourning the loss of their best friends. As a pet owner myself, I have experienced both the joy of their presence and the sorrow of our loss. So, the opportunity to bring joy in the sorrow to pet owners as they say goodbye is very special to me.
I have painted many subjects over the years, but I always find myself coming back to pets. They bring me so much joy to work with, and it's a true privilege to create something precious for the people who love them.
When not creating, I homeschool my three other little “animals”, write songs and fiction, and generally avoid doing the laundry.
